The word "Ostrei-mas" was developed by grouping a couple of relevant words to describe this breed’s gender and animal family.
"Ostrei-“ derives from "Ostreidae”, taxonomic family name for oyster.

“-Mas" derives from "Mas-culine or Male".


While the term Ostreimas describes male oysters, “ Ostreifem” describes female oysters.
