The word "Mactri-mas" was developed by grouping a couple of relevant words to describe this breed’s gender and animal family.
"Mactri-“ derives from "Mactridae”, taxonomic family name for surf clams.

“-Mas" derives from "Mas-culine or Male".


While the term Mactrimas describes male surf clams, “ Mactrifem” describes female surf clams.
