The word "Hippopoti-mas" was developed by grouping a couple of relevant words to describe this breed’s gender and animal family.
"Hippopoti-“ derives from "Hippopotidae”, taxonomic family name for most Hippopotamuses.

“ -Mas" derives from "Mas-culine or Male".


While the term "Hippopotimas" describes: male Hippopotamuses, "Hippopotifem" describes: female Hippopotamuses.
